Role of Children

In Japan, what is thought to be the most important thing for children is to come up to their parent’s expectation. The most common role of children in Japan is to study hard, go to a private school, enter good university, and to get a good job. This is what Japanese parents expect on children. They want their children to have a happy life in future, and they will do their best to support their children.
But, there is a difference between American and Japanese parents in a rate of how much they support their children. In Japan, parents think of their children as the most important factor of their life. They give up a great amount of their life, time, and money to make their children success. Compared to that, American parents don’t sacrifice their life for their children as Japanese parents do. Of course they care about their children, but they care about both their life and children’s life.
Families in Japan

The way families are like in America and Japan is different in many ways. The biggest difference is that the role wife and husband are assigned.
In Japan, most husband works outside the house and wife does the house work. While husband is working at the office, wife cleans up the house, does the washing, and takes care of their children. Most husbands don’t help their wife with the house work, and wife doesn’t expect husband’s help. Because they both concentrate on their own job, husband has few opportunity to take part in their children’s school activities, and wife has more stress since she has few times for doing what she wants to do.
Compared to Japanese family style, American families have different kind of style. The biggest difference is that the percentage wife is working outside the house and husband participating at the house work is much higher than that of Japanese families. So while husband is working out, wife takes care of the house and children, and while wife is working, husband takes care of the house and children. By doing so, compared to Japan, both wife and husband have an opportunity to participate in children’s growth.
I think this is a very important part for children’s way of growing up, and what makes the difference is how companies in both countries are thinking of the employee’s home.

Dating in Japan

There are few different points of dating in Japan and America.
One point is what we use to move from place to place. In America, most people use cars to pick his/her girl/boyfriend up and go where they want. But in Japan, using trains are faster and easier to move, so we don’t usually use cars unless we go somewhere far on a vacation.
Another difference is what we do while dating. American people go somewhere far by car for sightseeing and walk around that place (I guess), but Japanese couple often go shopping to choose each other’s clothes, and talk for a long time at a café after that. By talking, they can get to know each other more so it is an important time in a date in Japan.
The last difference is the time how much time they can be together. As I said that American often use cars, they can meet and leave anytime they want. In contrast, as Japanese use trains, it is hard for them to stay as long as they like due to the time of the train. For example, meeting on the rush hour is difficult, and they also need to care about the last train.
Of these three differences, I think using cars and trains for dating is a great difference between America and Japan. By this, many things we can do for dating is limited, and it becomes the characteristics of dating in each country. Therefore, people in both country try to think of the best plan possible when they go on a date.

Groups in Japan

When you consider about the groups in Japan, we can divide it into 4 major groups.
One group is mainly made up from students which belong in the same club. They spend most of the day together so they can get along very well. Involving in a club is very important to students and they are very proud of their club, so many students get together with the club members.
Another group is made from very active and noisy students. This group can be separated into two types. One type is a group which makes the class in a good mood. They can make the group get into swing so usually the whole class likes these groups. Another type is a group that changes the class into a bad mood. They are not considerate so even if the teacher is angry at the class, they cannot take that problem seriously and fool around.
The third type is a group of student that doesn’t care about others and just do what they want. While short breaks between classes, they don’t talk to anyone and just study or read books. They don’t like to make friends forcibly.
The last type is made from students that have the same thing in common. They always talk about what they like, and get information that is maniac. These people are called “otaku” in Japan these days. They are getting popular, and most of the “otaku” likes characters that come out in comic books. These people get together and make a group which other people who aren’t “Otaku” are hard to join.
There are differences at each school, but in my own experience, it was possible to change the groups you belonged to. The most important thing is to belong to a most suitable group for you to get along with.
