Families in Japan

The way families are like in America and Japan is different in many ways. The biggest difference is that the role wife and husband are assigned.
In Japan, most husband works outside the house and wife does the house work. While husband is working at the office, wife cleans up the house, does the washing, and takes care of their children. Most husbands don’t help their wife with the house work, and wife doesn’t expect husband’s help. Because they both concentrate on their own job, husband has few opportunity to take part in their children’s school activities, and wife has more stress since she has few times for doing what she wants to do.
Compared to Japanese family style, American families have different kind of style. The biggest difference is that the percentage wife is working outside the house and husband participating at the house work is much higher than that of Japanese families. So while husband is working out, wife takes care of the house and children, and while wife is working, husband takes care of the house and children. By doing so, compared to Japan, both wife and husband have an opportunity to participate in children’s growth.
I think this is a very important part for children’s way of growing up, and what makes the difference is how companies in both countries are thinking of the employee’s home.
